“Roma” – Montagnana Model Cello – 2023
Description
Domenico Montagnana, one of the most renowned Italian luthiers of the 18th century, is celebrated for crafting some of the finest cellos ever made. Working in Venice, a city with a rich musical tradition, Montagnana left a legacy that continues to inspire. Udine, with its long history of cultural and commercial ties to Venice, is the perfect place to honor this tradition. This is why I chose to create the Montagnana model.
The name "Roma" was chosen to evoke the majesty and grandeur of the Eternal City. Rome, with its rich history and unparalleled artistic heritage, perfectly embodies the essence of this cello, which combines tradition and innovation into an instrument of extraordinary quality.
Top Plate: Made from Italian Alpine spruce, aged for many years at Liuteria Zerilli, the top plate of this cello offers extraordinary sound quality. The straight and even grain is carefully chosen to optimize resonance.
Back: The two-piece back is crafted from Balkan maple, featuring narrow and deep flaming that gives the instrument an elegant and refined appearance.
Color and Varnish: The modern orange-brown varnish adds warmth and sophistication to the cello. The glossy finish accentuates the wood's grain, highlighting the instrument's natural beauty.
Sound: The "Roma" cello produces a rich and resonant sound, with excellent projection and a wide dynamic range. Ideal for professional cellists looking for an instrument capable of expressing a complete and detailed sound palette.
